Stop 1Padua, Veneto
Padua
Venetian villas and university streets by Brenta canal
Padua has drawn scholars since the thirteenth century and pilgrims since the death of Saint Anthony in 1231. The university quarter spreads through arcaded streets that open onto cafe-lined piazzas, and the basilica holds one of Italy's most visited reliquaries. You arrive after a stop in Verona, where the Roman Arena still anchors Piazza Bra and the so-called balcony of Juliet draws crowds to Via Cappello.
The next morning you board a ferry for the Brenta canal, the waterway Venetian nobles used to reach their summer estates. Villa Pisani in Stra is the grandest, now an art museum with formal gardens and a hedge maze. The route continues through Dolo and Mira to the Palladian Villa Foscari at Malcontenta, passing riverside villages that once served the merchant trade. From November to March, when the ferry does not run, a motor coach follows the same route with a local guide. On the third day you travel east to Trieste, the Adriatic port city shaped by centuries of Habsburg rule.
Arranged for you: We arrange motor coach transfers, guided tours of Verona and the Brenta villas, ferry passage from April to October, three nights in Padua and breakfast daily.

Meet your group in Milan’s historic center and depart by motor coach for Verona, one of Italy’s most romantic cities and the legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. On a guided walking tour, you’ll see Castelvecchio on the river, Piazza Bra with its impressive Roman Arena, Piazza dei Signori, Palazzo dei Tribunali, and Juliet’s House, where you can admire the famous balcony and touch Juliet’s statue for luck in love. After lunch on your own, continue to Padua, home to one of Italy’s oldest universities and the venerated Saint Anthony. A sightseeing tour will introduce you to the Basilica of St. Anthony, the vast Prato della Valle square, Piazza dei Signori, and the historic Caffè Pedrocchi, once a favorite haunt of writers and artists. Overnight in Padua.
From November to March, the Brenta River cruise does not operate. During this period, the same area is visited by bus with a local guide instead of by boat.
After breakfast, board a ferry for a relaxing cruise along the Brenta River, once the main merchant waterway connecting Padua to Venice. As you travel, you’ll pass elegant villas and picturesque riverside towns that once belonged to Venetian nobility. The first stop is Stra, where you’ll visit Villa Pisani, a grand residence now housing an art museum. Continue to Dolo, known for its 16th‑century mills, and enjoy free time for lunch. The journey then proceeds to Mira, passing through the Lock of Dolo and by more historic villas. Depending on the program, you may visit Villa Widmann and Villa Foscari (optional, not included) before disembarking in Malcontenta. A minibus will take you back to your hotel in Padua for a restful night. (From November to March, this itinerary is done by bus with a local guide instead of by river cruise.)
Enjoy breakfast, then head east to Trieste, a fascinating port city on the Adriatic Sea that once belonged to the Austro‑Hungarian Empire. Its unique position and history have created a blend of Italian, Central European, and Slavic influences. On a guided tour, you’ll see highlights such as Miramare Castle overlooking the sea, Piazza Italia, the Red Palace, City Hall, the Roman Amphitheater, and the Victory Lighthouse with its sweeping coastal views. After free time for lunch and a stroll through the old town, you might stop at one of Trieste’s famous literary cafés, where authors like James Joyce once wrote. In the late afternoon, return to Padua for another overnight stay.
Stop 2Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia
Trieste
Habsburg port between Adriatic and Central Europe
Trieste sits at the head of the Adriatic, where Italian, Slavic and Central European currents have met since the Romans fortified the harbor. The Habsburgs made it their principal seaport, and the neoclassical facades along Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia still face the water where steamships once docked. Miramare Castle, built for Archduke Maximilian in the 1850s, perches on a limestone promontory with formal gardens descending to the sea. The guided tour includes the Roman amphitheater above the old town, the Victory Lighthouse on the Barcola waterfront, and the central streets where Mitteleuropean cafes have served espresso and sachertorte for more than a century. After the tour you have free time for lunch and a walk along the seafront or through the narrow lanes of the Borgo Teresiano.
Arranged for you: We arrange motor coach transfer from Padua, guided tour of Trieste and Miramare, one night in Trieste and breakfast.
