Two nights exploring hill towns and vineyards
We arrange your rental car in Florence and you drive south into the Tuscan countryside, where vineyards alternate with olive groves and cypress trees mark the ridges. You base yourself in Siena for two nights. The Gothic Cathedral holds Donatello bronzes, Pinturicchio frescoes and an inlaid marble floor that took centuries to complete. The sloping Piazza del Campo, shaped like a scallop shell, hosts the Palio horse race each summer and is overlooked by the Torre del Mangia bell tower in the Palazzo Comunale.
From Siena you make day trips by car to San Gimignano, where fourteen medieval towers still stand, and to Montepulciano and Volterra, walled towns built on hilltops. You visit Sant'Antimo Abbey in the valley below Montalcino and taste Brunello wine at a vineyard, pairing it with local pecorino and salumi. The package includes the rental car for these explorations.
