Turin
Savoy capital of baroque palaces and invention
Turin became the first capital of a unified Italy in 1861, and the Savoy monarchy left behind a city of porticoed boulevards, baroque churches and palatial residences. We arrange a private walking tour through the historic center on the afternoon of your arrival: Piazza Castello and its theaters of power (Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Reale), the cathedral that holds the Shroud, the grand salotto of Piazza San Carlo. The next day is yours to explore the Egyptian Museum, second only to Cairo's in scope, or the Cinema Museum spiraling up inside the Mole Antonelliana. On your third day we send you by car to the crown of Savoy villas ringing the city: the Stupinigi hunting palace with its frescoed halls, Rivoli Castle and its contemporary art galleries, and the Reggia di Venaria, a sprawling estate restored to its gilded glory. Return each evening to Turin's caffès for bicerin, the layered espresso drink invented here, or the city's signature hazelnut chocolates.
Arranged for you: We arrange your hotel, a welcome drink, and a private walking tour of the historic center with an English-speaking guide.

We missed our connecting flight in Munich. I had just got through customs and was looking up the number to call when Trips 2 Italy called me. They told me exactly what to do and they already knew what flight we had been rebooked on.
