Stop 1Rome, Lazio
Rome
Vatican Gardens and the monuments of the Eternal City
You arrive in Rome and settle into a premium four-star hotel within walking distance of the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona and Trastevere. The first afternoon is yours to wander the cobbled lanes, and that evening your tour assistant meets you in the lobby to review the days ahead. On your second morning we arrange a guided tour of the Vatican Gardens, the sixteen-hectare park where popes have walked and prayed since the thirteenth century. Fountains, grottoes and Renaissance parterres unfold among umbrella pines and Lebanon cedars, the tour revealing spaces most visitors never see. Afterward you have time to visit the Sistine Chapel, climb to the Colosseum, or stand at the Trevi Fountain with a cup of gelato.
Arranged for you: We arrange your centrally located hotel, daily breakfast, an evening orientation with your tour assistant, and a guided tour of the Vatican Gardens.

Stop 2Florence, Tuscany
Florence
Renaissance villas and gardens above the Arno Valley
We drive north through Lazio and into Tuscany, stopping first at Villa Farnese in Caprarola. The pentagonal palace rises like a fortress above the town, its moat and drawbridges giving way to loggias and formal parterres. An hour north we reach Villa Lante in Bagnaia, where water descends through cascades, grottos and stone dolphins in one of Italy's most admired Renaissance water gardens. By late afternoon you arrive in Florence and check into a premium four-star hotel in the historic center.
The next morning we arrange tours of two Tuscan villas above the city. Villa Gamberaia clings to a hillside in Settignano, its clipped hedges and lemon house framing views over the Arno Valley. In the afternoon you visit Villa Peyron al Bosco di Fontelucente in the Fiesole hills, a refined country seat surrounded by olive groves and woodland paths with long sightlines toward Florence and the medieval tower of Castel di Poggio. Your final full day is free to see the Duomo's cupola, walk across the Ponte Vecchio, stand before Michelangelo's David at the Accademia, or stroll the Boboli Gardens behind Pitti Palace.
Arranged for you: We arrange private transport from Rome to Florence with stops at Villa Farnese and Villa Lante, three nights at a centrally located hotel with daily breakfast, and guided tours of Villa Gamberaia and Villa Peyron al Bosco.
